Touch app allows users to unlock entrances remotely with the push of a button on the mobile app. Only entryways matching the user’s permission level will be available to unlock. The Touch app is compatible with all pdk io systems and all doorways, regardless of the type of readers in place.
To begin making use of this new functionality, system administrators must enable the feature within the software, which now appears as a clickable option within the management dashboard. In addition, the administrator must indicate which individual users are authorized to use the app. This allows employers to limit the use of the app to certain employees, if desired, such as those at a managerial level or above. Once these two steps occur, authorized users will automatically receive an e-mail from PDK with a link to download and set up the app on their smartphone.
Using the app, users can identify frequently used entryways as “favorites,” saving them to the home screen. This makes the ability to remotely unlock these entrances faster.
In addition to offering convenience to system users who prefer to stop carrying a physical credential with them at all times, it also allows them to remotely unlock doors to admit approved third parties, such as visitors or delivery people.
For employers who have installed PDK’s new touch io Bluetooth readers, the Touch app serves as home to their Bluetooth credentials, which grant them a hassle-free entry experience. Without unlocking or accessing their phones as they approach a doorway, these users need only gently touch their hand to the touch io reader in order to signal a desire to enter and unlock the door.
NOTE: The Touch app must be installed for Touch io readers to work.

The touch App is proprietary to the ProdataKey platform. It is available for both Apple and Android smart devices and is used with the touch io reader and other reader devices to maintain a high level of security as well as convenience. With touch App, you can use your smart device to remotely access and open (unlock) any door you have been granted access to anywhere an internet connection is available.
As an example, an employee, from the convenience of their office or wherever they may be, can use the touch App to open their building’s front door for a visitor. Or, from your gated community, you can grant access to the pizza delivery man through the security gate for delivery to your house, without having to leave your home.
NOTE: Don’t give permissions to Touch io and the Touch App prior to pairing the reader.
The touch App can be used by anyone who has been granted credentialed access to reader devices. All door operations handled by the user’s touch App are conditioned upon their access permissions defined by the administrator.
NOTE: The touch App requires a data/internet connection with your mobile provider.
PDK io Mobile Credentials Overview
Requesting & Accepting Credentials
Requesting and accepting the touch App credential begins with the People option of the pdk.io application. Access the Credentials feature in the Person screen of the pdk.io software. In addition to adding and assigning prox cards, the Credentials feature is used to assign mobile credentials to users. Among the variety of available readers, touch io provides the convenience of being able to use a smartphone or tablet to gain door access. To gain facility access from a door controller such as the single io or eight io, the touch App must be installed on the user’s smart device in order to be used with the doors the user has been granted access.
NOTE: An email address for the user is required (in the Person screen) to be able to send the credential email and to utilize the touch App option.
From the Person screen in the PDK io application, click the + icon next to Credentials to assign a mobile credential (using the MOBILE tab) to the user.
From the MOBILE tab in the Add Credentials screen, checking touch Mobile App provides the touch App functionality to remotely unlock doors using the app. Click ADD.
MOBILE Tab Bluetooth Option
NOTE: Checking Bluetooth in the Add Credentials screen provides the credential for the touch io reader functionality. Refer to the Bluetooth Option section in the Touch io documentation for detailed information about the Bluetooth feature.
NOTE: We have found a Bluetooth issue with the Samsung Note 7 and Note 8 phones. It appears to be an incompatibility with their Bluetooth chipset in these devices.
MOBILE Tab touch Mobile App Option
With touch Mobile App checked, a credential email titled ProdataKey Cloud Systems and reads Your ProdataKey Credential is Ready is sent to the user’s email address. From a user’s smartphone, the credential email looks similar to the following.
It will be necessary to access and open the credential email from the user’s smartphone or tablet so that the credential can be added to the device. To accept the credential, tap the email.
Scroll down in the email and tap the Apple or Android link that corresponds to your device type.
The pdk doors ProdataKey, Inc. app is shown. Tap Install.
Following a successful install, tap Open.
There are two methods for completing the credentialed setup and activating the touch App.
Using the Activate Button
1. Return to the credential email and tap the blue Activate button.
The touch App becomes active and setup is complete. Go to the List of Doors section for continued information on the touch App.
NOTICE: If, for any reason, the Activate button is ineffective in completing the credential process, continue with the next step.
Using an Activation Code
2. Activate the touch App manually. In the event that the Activate button is not effective in completing the credential process, additionally, an Activation Code is auto-generated and shown in the same credential email to ensure that the process can be completed.
Tap and hold on the activation code and then tap Copy.
NOTE: When adding/activating the touch app credential on an iPhone, it will prompt you for your iPhone PIN/password at least once. This is NOT the 24-digit number for the manual activation.
Return to the credential email, and tap Activation Code.
Tap and hold inside the Activation Code field and then tap Paste. With the activation code copied in the field, tap ACTIVATE.
The touch App is now active.
List of Doors
A list of available doors, similar to the following, is displayed. The names of each of the doors to which the user has access are listed by name. Icons to the left of the door name indicate the door’s status (locked/unlocked).
To momentarily open (unlock) the door, press and hold on a door name. After several seconds, the door will return to its locked status.
NOTE: When the credential is accepted and the touch App is active, the user’s phone is listed under the Credentials heading in the Person screen. With touch Mobile App selected in the Add Credentials screen, Mobile is displayed above the user’s phone model and type.
“Favorite” doors, those used most often, can be tagged by tapping on the star to the right of the door name in the list of doors. When selected, the star changes from gray to yellow. Favorite doors selections can be toggled on and off.
Doors tagged as favorites are accessed from the Favorites list. Tap the back arrow at the top of the screen to access your list of Favorites.
Doors can be removed from Favorites by tapping on the yellow star. The star turns from yellow to gray. The next time the Favorites list is accessed, any removed doors will not be listed. They do, however, remain in the user's list of available doors.
If your smart device loses connection to your mobile network, the Internet, or when placed in Airplane Mode, the connection icon with a circle slash will appear (as shown). The doors in the list will fail to function when not connected.
Touch App (& Touch io) Security Features
Your phone is your credential - A credentialed email is sent to your phone that only you can access and is unique to your phone only.
The touch app doesn't automatically open any door. An activation code is required to activate a user's phone as a credential and provide access to doors they have been granted access to through pdk.io. Only entryways matching the user’s permission levels will be available to unlock.
- The touch io reader, in conjunction with the touch app, has Inside/Out Detection and technology that prevents unauthorized access. Using advanced hardware and technology, the touch io reader, along with use of the touch app, detects the location of the user’s smart device and determines whether the user is outside the door with the reader, prior to gaining access, or inside, having successfully been granted authorized access. This system's security feature acts as a one-way filter that only allows authorized users to pass and prevents unauthorized persons from gaining access to a facility using an authorized person's touch app, who is already inside and within reading range of the touch io reader.
