touch App
The touch App is proprietary to the ProdataKey platform, is available for both Apple and Android smart devices, and is used with the touch io reader and other reader devices to maintain a high level of security as well as provide a level of convenience. touch App allows you to use your smart device to remotely access any door you have been granted access to through the pdk.io application. You can remotely open (unlock) and close (lock) doors from the app, using your smart device, anywhere an internet connection is available. With the touch App, you can designate and select “favorites” from your list of available doors.
As an example, John, using the touch App from the convenience of his office, can open the building’s front door for Bill who left his card key in his office. Or, from home in their secure, gated community, John and Jill can remotely open the security gate to provide access for the pizza delivery man.
The touch App can be used by anyone granted credentialed access to reader devices. All door operations handled by the user’s touch App are constrained by their touch io door access permissions.
PDK.io App
The pdk.io App is under the control of users having an Integrator, Admin, or Manager permission role (also referred to as an administrator).
It displays virtual credentials when installed. The app runs silently in the background of the user’s mobile device, transmitting the user’s Bluetooth Low Energy credential to the reader when the user activates the touch io reader’s capacitive touch sensor by touching the reader.
NOTE: We have found a Bluetooth issue with Samsung Note 7 and Note 8 phones. It appears to be an incompatibility with their Bluetooth chipset in these devices.
It utilizes the Configuration feature in the pdk.io App to configure and manage touch io readers installed at the organizations. This permission allows an administrator to:
Assign a reader to a specific door controller device;
Send a credential email notification to a user to provide touch io access;
Change the Settings configurations of individual touch io hardware devices.
Requesting & Accepting touch App Credentials
Requesting and accepting the touch App credential begins with the People option of the pdk.io application. Access the Credentials feature in the Person screen of the pdk.io software. In addition to adding and assigning prox cards, the Credentials feature is used to assign mobile credentials to users. Among the variety of available readers, touch io provides the convenience of being able to use a smartphone or tablet to gain door access. To gain facility access from a door controller such as the single io or eight io, the touch App must be installed on the user’s smart device in order to be used with the doors the user has been granted access.
NOTE: An email address for the user is required (in the Person screen) to be able to send the credential email and to utilize the touch App option.
From the Person screen in the pdk.io application, click the + icon next to Credentials to assign a prox card (using the CARD tab) to a user. Use the MOBILE tab to assign a mobile credential to the person in addition to or instead of the prox card. From the MOBILE tab, Bluetooth or touch App (or both) can be checked to assign a mobile credential to the user.
MOBILE Tab - touch App
Check touch Mobile App to authorize touch io credential functionality for the user and allow the use of the touch App for access to touch io readers. The app allows users to use their smart device to gain access to doors to which they have been granted access. One or both of these credential options in the MOBILE tab can be checked.
NOTE: Checking the Bluetooth option in the Add Credentials screen provides the credential for touch io reader functionality.
NOTE: We have found a Bluetooth issue with the Samsung Note 7 and Note 8 phones. It appears to be an incompatibility with their Bluetooth chipset in these devices.
Connecting to a touch io Reader
A touch io reader is assigned and connected to a door controller device such as a Single io or Eight io. Once the user’s smart device credential is used to access the reader, the credentials are passed along to the access control system for validation. If the access request is valid, the touch io reader displays the appropriate LED color (green) and entrance is granted at that reader access point.
From the pdk.io App web portal, anyone with an Integrator, Admin, or Manager permission role (also referred to as an administrator) may perform the necessary steps to add and have a credential email sent to a system user.
From the Cloud Node in pdk.io’s People feature, select the name of the person wanting to connect their smart device to the touch io reader.
With the user’s field information completed (including email address), add a credential by clicking the + icon next to Credentials.
From the MOBILE tab in the Add Credentials window, check Bluetooth and select ADD.
An email is sent to the email recipient indicating that their credential is ready.
Until the credential is accepted and completed, Pending appears in the list in place of the phone type.
Tap on the email from your device to open the email and begin accepting the credential.
Once the user finishes accepting the credential, their phone type/model is listed under the Credentials heading labeled Mobile and Bluetooth appears under the type/model of the person’s phone.
NOTE: Any prox cards that are added using the CARDS tab in the Add Credentials screen are listed under the Cards heading as shown here.
From the mobile device, tap Accept.
Tap the Apple or Android link that corresponds to your device type.
The pdk touch ProdataKey, Inc. app is shown. Tap INSTALL.
Following the successful installation of the touch App, tap OPEN.
Tap the name of your Cloud Node to view the list of doors.
PAIR touch Button
To pair your phone with a touch io reader, tap the Cloud Node from the pdk.io application.
In the Appliances screen, scroll down and tap Configuration.
In the Devices tab, tap the touch io reader door that is to be paired with your phone (or other smart device).
With the user’s smart device in close proximity to the touch io reader, tap the PAIR touch button in the Device screen.
As the animation illustrates, touch your phone to the touch io Bluetooth reader. While being paired, the touch io reader’s LED circle flashes yellow.
After a successful connection between the phone and the touch io reader, the LED circle turns yellow. Listed door controllers that have been paired with a touch io reader display the touch logo under the name.
