When the ProdataKey Single-Gang and Mullion readers come from the factory, by default they are in "virtual card mode". To take it out of that mode so the readers can be used with an access card or a PIN, it is necessary to enter the following master operation code on the reader:
*888888#731#** (This code sequence is only necessary for pdk readers.)
Entering this code allows the reader to send a PIN input format in 4-bit data instead of the default virtual card format, enabling the use of an access card or PIN input at the reader for secure access. When a person is added to the pdk io system, it enables that person to assign a PIN for access at a reader device.
The following master operation table describes the codes for the desired mode. The LED color will indicate the operation mode.
Enter the desired master operation mode. (The reader will return to Normal Mode if there is no master PIN input within 5 seconds.) After input of the master PIN, the reader will return to Normal Mode if there is no valid operation within 30 seconds. Press # to confirm the input code number. The LED color will indicate the operation mode.
What the *888888#731#** keypress sequence is doing:
* (White LED background); 888888 (puts the reader in programming mode); # (confirms the input number); 731# (red flash, orange flash, sends keypress in 4-bit data format); ** (takes the reader out of programming mode).
NOTE: If the reader doesn't beep/react when presenting a card format, it's not compatible with the reader.
